Event Operations Internship

This internship is designed for students who want practical sports operations experience in a live match environment. Interns learn how to plan, execute, and evaluate event logistics while supporting the fan experience and operational standards of Firelands United.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support pre-match setup, post-match teardown, and field-side operational checklists
  • Assist with fan entry flow, signage setup, hospitality coordination, and venue readiness
  • Help coordinate volunteer assignments, radio/phone communication flow, and issue tracking
  • Contribute to post-match debrief notes and action items for the next event

  • Develop communication and leadership habits in a high-tempo team environment
  • Learn how operational decisions impact players, staff, and supporters on match day
  • Gain transferable project-management and stakeholder-coordination experience

Internship Track (10-12 Weeks)

Phase 1 (Weeks 1-2): Orientation, operations handbook review, venue walkthrough, and shadowing current match-day workflows.

Phase 2 (Weeks 3-5): Shared execution ownership for setup, fan-flow stations, and volunteer communication under close supervision.

Phase 3 (Weeks 6-9): Lead one operational workstream each match day (for example: check-in, signage, or fan zone execution).

Phase 4 (Weeks 10-12): Deliver a final event improvement recommendation with measurable process upgrades.

Required Deliverables

  • Weekly operations log with priorities, issues, and improvement notes
  • One updated match-day checklist or SOP improvement draft
  • Final presentation of recommended operational improvements

Supervision: Assigned staff mentor with weekly feedback checkpoint and midpoint/final evaluation.

Typical Commitment: 8-15 hours per week in-season (including match-day hours).
